Strategic Plan
Alabama Public Health Association
We were all excited about the implementation of the Association's
progressive strategic plan for the future. As you recall, the strategic
plan was approved by the membership at the 2000 Annual Meeting in
Auburn. The approval of the plan was the culmination of many hours
of work to ensure the strength and direction of our organization.
Vision
The Alabama Public Health Association aspires to be the recognized
leader and key resource on public health issues and policy in Alabama
and the clearinghouse for public health education with a broad and
diverse membership of citizens and organizations.
Mission
The Alabama Public Health Association, Inc., is an association of
individuals and organizations interested in public health in Alabama.
The mission of the Association is to
• Link individuals and organizations in
addressing public health issues;
• Advocate public health policy;
• Support the education of it's members
and the public on public health issues; and
• Enhance the ability of it's members to
promote and protect personal, environmental and community health.
Strategic Goals
1. To develop organization structure to ensure
the administrative continuity of the Association.
Activities
a. Develop regional representation in
administrative structure.
b. Establish an association office or
other continuous contact point.
c. Explore establishing a paid, administrative
position.
d. Review by-laws to strengthen and
enable continuity.
e. Explore current Sections and their
purposes; make changes in order to provide forums for broader
interest groups (for example, public health policy).
f. Review financial status and dues structure.
2. To expand membership of the Association.
Activities
a. Conduct a needs assessment of present
and potential members.
b. Recruit nontraditional members and
partners
c. Develop a web site.
d. Advertise AlPHA
1. through professional and association
publications;
2. through fact sheets;
3. through presentation of AlPHA sponsored
events;
4. by word of mouth.
3. To become the public health education,
information, and policy clearinghouse in Alabama.
Activities
a. Inventory and list policy and training
resources
b. Establish a database in central AlPHA
office to collect, store and disseminate information
1. to collect and disseminate information
about conferences, organizations, and other training opportunities;
2. to produce and maintain position
papers relevant to public health legislation and policy issues;
3. to market services through the
web site, e-mail, newsletters, and brochures.
4. To establish leadership in the formulation
and advocacy of public health policy in Alabama.
(This is a longer term goal to be addressed after the first
three have been accomplished.)
5. To be recognized as the organization that
links individuals and organizations in addressing public health
issues in Alabama
(This is a long term goal.)
The AlPHA Board of Directors will continue to
evaluate and revise the time lines for implementation of the identified
goals. Your comments, thoughts, and ideas are encouraged as we seek
to further develop our association. Please take a few moments to
review the components of the strategic plan and share your comments.
